Moral diversity

Moral diversity requires more tolerance than other types of diversity; people would feel reluctant to communicate when they find ethic differences between them.

Although I have been studying about how diversity or its power is manipulated in communities and how we can yield benefits from it for a while, this is my first time seeing this term, moral diversity, but somehow I could understand what that is immediately. The other study supports that diversity is likely to be celebrated and welcomed under a somewhat controlled environment such as schools or classrooms. On the other hand, people prefer to stay with those from same social identities in their dorm where security is not ensured.

I agree that the different understandings of moral could cause misunderstanding, miscommunication, and obstacles to know the person/people. Idea of “right” and “wrong” differs from country to country, culture to culture, or family to family even in a same culture.

But, in order to step forward to understand others, we have to keep asking critical questions rather than assuming that everybody understands the norm you believe. I believe this is something I have to teach through language study, particularly in the area of cross cultural understanding.

When we communicate, there are numerous things to know/be aware other than the language knowledge. Te idea of moral diversity reminds me that English classes should not be limited within grammar and vocab class, to allow students to express themselves and understand others through different language.
